Using SCORM and tracking on an LMS

With Speedernet Sphere, you have the possibility to associate SCORM to the interactions in the experience.

Thus, you can assign scores to the interactions and then track the user's results on your LMS (Learning Management System) platform.

You can use SCORM for all types of elements and all types of interactions.

In this tutorial, we use the example of a custom-made question with two possible answers: one of the answers is correct and the other one is incorrect.

Setting up SCORM

To define the behaviors related to the user's response, we need to associate SCORM implications with the question responses.

As illustrated in the screenshot below, the trigger is the click on one of the answers. The condition, of course, depends on the selected answer, correct or incorrect. The SCORM behavior is defined in the consequence of each conditional.

To do this, you have to:

• Create a new implication
• Select the "SCORM" category
• Add an objective* that will be linked to the question
• Rename the objective to identify it more easily
• Set the answer to be sent to the LMS platform

Let's take the example of the correct answer, shown below:

A response consists of a name, a description and a value or a numeric variable. For the incorrect answer, the value sent to the LMS will be 0 and for a correct answer, the value can be 10 for example.

If you have a question with the proposed answers with different values (10, 5 and 0), Sphere takes the highest value. You cannot add the two values of 10 and 5 if the user chooses both. If you need to add the points, please use the numeric variable. 

Note that the comment in this area, depending on your LMS platform, may be visible in the user's results window.

End of Scorm tracking

To communicate the result to the LMS platform, especially if your LMS platform is Moodle, you need to create a conditional to define the "End of Scorm Tracking". This implication must be activated at the very end of the user's journey in the experience.

Scorm Objectives* and Score Management

As you have seen above, to set up the SCORM for an interaction (a question or others), it is necessary to define an objective and then associate points (score) to it. Each question or interaction type (depending on your scenario) can have a different objective.

When you have more than one objective in your project, the user must answer all the objectives defined in the experience. If the user does not answer all the questions (interactions) SCORM, the score is not sent to the LMS platform, the completion is defined as "incomplete", the success - as "unknown".

Export of a Speedernet Sphere project with Scorm tracking

Like for a classic export, click on "Export". In the export window, activate the "Scorm tracking". Indicate the maximum score to validate the training.

Before finalizing the export of your project, check the "Compress export" box, which will provide you with a .zip file of the experience, ready to upload to your LMS platform.

Note that Sphere offers export in SCORM 2004 as well as SCORM 1.2.

To summarize, Sphere content allows you to verify the following elements on your platform:

• User score
• Pass/Fail status
• Completion status
